Who is the Fellowship Programme for?
The Fellowship Programme is intended for national leaders of education (NLEs) who have an interest in challenging themselves even further and broadening their perspective to engage with complex issues at a national (and possibly international) level.
Application criteria 2012-13
Essential criteria
Candidates must:
- be a National Leader of Education (NLE) - see the current criteria to be an NLE/National Support School (NSS)
- have undertaken at least one successful school-to-school support deployment that has delivered significant school improvement, as an NLE/National Support School (or in exceptional circumstances prior to NLE designation.)
- be in a position to continue to work as a National Leader of Education for at least two academic years from September 2012
- be able to commit to a minimum of 15 days across the nine month programme (Specified dates), depending on pathway provision and including coaching and evaluation
Desirable criteria
In addition to the essential criteria, candidates will also be expected to demonstrate:
- an ability to think and act at system-wide level
- self-awareness and curiosity about leadership strengths and areas for development
- an openness to learning from other sectors (including commerce, industry, wider public service, or third sector) and an ability to participate as an equal member to a cross-sector strategic leadership programme
- an awareness of, and interest in, political processes and imperatives in the shaping and resourcing of education
- an ability to see the potential of wide-ranging contacts, to form constructive relationships across a broad network of people and organisations, and to turn these to benefit
- a commitment to extend their personal role as an NLE to a make a more strategic contribution at federation/local/regional/academy sponsor or national level to improve the life chances of children
