Eligibility criteria
<p>Applicants of the Certificate of School Business Management (CSBM) with school business manager (SBM) experience must be either:</p>
<ul><li>an SBM, bursar or similar role within a state-maintained school, academy or early years setting</li>
<li>working for a local authority or the Department for Education with SBM responsibilities, and a school identified at which you can carry out work-based study</li></ul>
<p>For the purpose of this programme, the SBM role is defined as undertaking or having experience in at least <b>three </b>elements from the following list in your daily job, at either senior administrator or management level:</p>
<ul><li>managing school finances (mandatory)</li>
<li>managing risk in schools</li>
<li>managing the school environment</li>
<li>managing school facilities</li>
<li>managing office services</li>
<li>managing human resources</li></ul>
<p>We will consider applications from those who are developing their current role through existing internal training, with plans to undertake additional duties in due course. You will need to evidence this in your application.</p>
<p>In addition to this you must also:</p>
<ul><li><a href="csbm-support-from-your-school.htm" title="Support from your school">obtain the support of the headteacher and chair of governors</a> at the school backing your application</li>
<li>be able to commit to approximately 4&#8211;8 hours of personal study time per week</li></ul>
<p>If you do not have relevant experience in the areas above you will not be able to apply for the programme. We recommend that you undertake internal training or shadowing to build your experience in order to apply. You can also take a level 3 qualification, which our delivery providers offer. <p>If you work in a school support role but do not meet the eligibility criteria above, you will not be able to apply under any of the other categories.</p>
